Why routine check-ups matter for your child
Children grow and change quickly, especially in the first few years. Routine check-ups — often called well-child visits — help you and your paediatrician keep track of that journey, even when your child seems perfectly healthy.
What a routine visit usually covers
- Growth: height, weight and head size tracked over time
- Development: milestones such as movement, speech and social skills
- Vaccinations: reviewing your child’s schedule and what’s due next
- Nutrition and sleep: feeding, eating habits and routines
- Your questions: anything that has been on your mind
How to prepare
Bring your child’s vaccination card and any previous reports. Write down your questions beforehand — it’s easy to forget them during the visit. A favourite toy or snack can help younger children feel at ease.
When not to wait
Routine visits don’t replace urgent care. If your child has a high fever, trouble breathing, is unusually drowsy, or you are worried, seek medical help promptly.
